The product range from MagForce consists of the
NanoTherm® magnetic fluid containing the iron oxide-
based nanoparticles,
the NanoPlan® software for
three-dimensional treatment planning and the MFH®-300F
magnetic field applicator.

NanoTherm®

The proprietary NanoTherm® magnetic fluid, consisting of
superparamagnetic iron oxide particles, serves as a transducer
which converts the electromagnetic energy into heat. The nano-
particles are constructed of a magnetite (iron oxide) core with a
diameter of approx. 15 nanometers covered with an “intelligent”
aminosilane coating. Once the magnetic fluid has been injected
into the tumor, the magnetite cores are stimulated by an
externally applied magnetic field, causing the nanoparticles to
release heat into the surrounding tumor tissue.

Software NanoPlan®

Before the special magnetic fluid is injected, the tumor is first diagnosed using imaging procedures so that its size, shape and location can be precisely determined. For example, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used for glioblastomas, while ultrasound is generally used to image prostate cancer. The proprietary planning software developed by MagForce then generates a three-dimensional reconstruction of the tumor and surrounding area on a computer screen. Using this data, the treating physician can then exactly determine how much nanoparticle fluid can be injected into what areas of the tumor, along with the optimal path for the injection procedure.

Magnetic field applicator MFH®-300F

The actual treatment procedure using Nano-Cancer® therapy from MagForce requires the use of its proprietary MFH®-300F magnetic field applicator. The patient lies on a flat surface within the machine, quite similar to an MRI machine. Unlike an MRI, however, the machine is virtually silent, so that the patient can even listen to music or to a family member reading aloud. The magnetic field applicator is designed so that that it may be used to treat tumors in any part of the body.

Patent protection and CE European conformity marking

The products and processes from MagForce Nanotechnologies are internationally protected under numerous patents, both received and applied for, as well as through a set of internationally trademarked brand names.

The magnetic fluid and magnetic field applicator are classified for European regulatory purposes as medical devices. As such, the CE marking, which certifies conformity with health and safety regulations throughout the European Economic Area, is the key required step for commercialization in the European Union. The results of the phase II clinical trials will serve as the basis for the conformity evaluation procedure for this CE marking.
