Berlin / Frankfurt – February 11, 2009 – “After more than 20 years of research and development … we are now planning to apply this year for European regulatory approval for our Nano-Cancer® therapy,” said Dr. Uwe Maschek, CEO of MagForce Nanotechnologies AG said today in welcoming remarks to Wolfgang Tiefensee, German federal minister for transport, building and urban affairs as well as federal commissioner for the new German states, on the occasion of the minister’s visit to the Berlin-based medical technology company which is majority owned by Nanostart AG. He went on to say, “This would facilitate the market introduction in the coming year of the unique treatment approach developed by us for treating solid tumors.”
Marco Beckmann, CEO of Nanostart AG, which specializes in growth capital for nanotechnology-based companies, added: “Along the road to the commercialization of Nano-Cancer® therapy, we have been able to give MagForce our active involvement and our passionate enthusiasm. The awaited market breakthrough is now coming into reach.”
In commenting on the ongoing clinical trials, Maschek noted that MagForce aims to “show not only that Nano-Cancer® therapy is highly efficacious but also that it is much better tolerated by patients than conventional cancer treatments. Studies are currently being conducted on applying the therapy to various tumor types, and we are far along with a clinical study for glioblastomas, the most malignant form of brain tumor, for which we are still accepting patients.”
Maschek thanked the German federal government, which recognized the significance of nanotechnology even at an early stage. Through his visit to MagForce, which was a prelude to the “Future Conference on Nanotechnology” to be held in Berlin on February 19, Mr. Tiefensee underscored the enormous future potential of nanotechnology, noting that “this branch of the economy is growing and creating jobs. This is particularly important in these economically strained times. It is essential that we continue to pursue the path to investment and innovation in these high-growth industries of the future.”
