Nanostart AG invests in Arryx, Inc.

Frankfurt am Main - Nanostart AG has made an investment in the American company Arryx, Inc., located in Chicago. With its platform technology, Arryx offers a highly-promising system for use in the area of molecular nanotechnology. In the meantime, the company is generally viewed as one of the most important technological companies beyond the boundaries of the nanotechnology scene.

Arryx is specialized in the development and deployment of a laser-based nanotechnology. By emitting beams, the user is able to grasp and realign objects the size of a body cell as well as objects only several nanometers thick. Experts consider this method of specific construction and manipulation on the molecular level to be the "Holy Grail" of nanotechnology. The company's products can be deployed in many industries in a broad range of markets, such as medicine, nano-electronics, nano-biotechnology and in the optical technologies segment. The system developed by Arryx can be used for sorting out blood cells, improving nano-transistors or also for manufacturing nano-sensors.

Arryx's technology is viewed by experts as a major pioneering innovation worldwide. It has been awarded numerous prizes. In 2002 Arryx was awarded the renowned R and D 100 Award by R and D Magazin, America's leading research and development journal. In mid-December of last year, the technology and economics journal Red Herring named Arryx as one of the "Top100 Innovators", placing the company at the top of the league of the world's most innovative companies. Just prior to this, Arryx had been nominated "2005 Technology Pioneer" by the World Economic Forum. The World Economic Forum, a non-commercial conference of leading representatives from science and politics who meet up each year in the Swiss city of Davos, awards this much coveted prize to 29 technological companies selected from a collection of 114 companies nominated worldwide. The reason: backed by its "visionary leadership", Arryx ranks among the companies with the potential to radically transform the economy and society as a result of its established technology.

"Our investment in Arryx represents a further major step for our company", claims Marco Beckmann, CEO of Nanostart AG. "With Arryx we are investing in one of the leading American nanotechnology companies. Thanks to its revolutionary technology, the company will be able to radically transform whole sectors of industry."

For Nanostart AG, the investment in Arryx represents a key milestone on the road towards establishing one of the world's leading portfolios of selected nanotechnology investments. The company Arryx, which as yet is not listed on a stock exchange, is already being traded in financial circles as a possible candidate for a Nasdaq flotation. Nanostart AG was the only foreign financial investor present in this finance round.
