May is here, putting nano applications in the spotlight: “A day in May is a categorical imperative of joy”, noted the poet Friedrich Hebbel in 1838. And nearly 200 years later, more than any other month, it brings with it the first pleasant warm sunshine, new life and a renewed urge to partake of outdoor activities. Today, thanks to scientific advances, when we look at nature, we can marvel at so much detail whose workings Hebbel and his contemporaries had no idea of – and on trips through woods and fields, we enjoy so many comforts as a result of these same scientific advances.
Nanotechnology from A to Z
May is here, putting nano applications in the spotlight:
Self-cleaning, stain-resistant, germ-free: Surfaces with nanofinishing
Self-cleaning, stain-resistant, germ-free: Surfaces with nanofinishing: Springtime has arrived, and Easter is around the corner. It’s a great time to get your home spruced up after the winter. Traditional tools include a pale, sponge, and rag – but even here science and research have introduced progress. >>

Shaping the future of energy with nanotechnology
Shaping the future of energy with nanotechnology: Events in Japan have rekindled the debate in Germany concerning a possible withdrawal from nuclear power. However, against the backdrop of growing demand for energy worldwide, this raises questions regarding suitable alternative sources of energy. Innovations for sustainable energy in the future are required. Nanotechnology is a key enabling factor for these innovations. >>
Nanotechnology for energy-efficient construction
More efficient heating insulation, more robust building materials, more environmentally sustainable energy production – which is particularly important in winter – are all due primarily to the rapid progress in materials and energy management. Nanotechnology is increasingly playing a critical role >>
